Eleven19 Part 2: Dream Projects

It seems every young design student dreams of one day working in a vibrant, innovative, creative work-space. Probably a small design firm, bestrewn with action figures, various other collectibles and brightly colored walls peaking through immense amounts of jaw-dropping design posters. But soon after college, most students discover that this is all but a dream- and they instead end up re-sizing catalogue photos from a cubicle as an in-house design "lackey" for a boring corporation.

So, when Donovan Beery hired me at Eleven19- I was delighted to suddenly find myself living the quintessential design student's dream. Everything was in place: plentiful Boba Fett figurines, screen printed posters, a rocketship gum ball dispenser, an extensive library of design inspiration, and even a Street Fighter arcade machine! In fact, Donovan even brought in some bikes so that we could take little riding breaks throughout the day. This job was almost too awesome.

Ever since I was 17 I had always worked from home- isolated from others. But now at Eleven19 I began  interacting with clients face-to-face, learning new skills and hanging out with amazing designers from all over the country. This new change of surroundings led to some great design collaborations between Donovan and myself. Below are some of my favorite eleven19 projects from the last year:

1. Omaha by Design Booklet

Designer: Ben Lueders
Art Director: Donovan Beery

This 26 page booklet highlighting Omaha's bright future, may have been my first "real" print-design piece. Not only did we have lots of fun working with the Omaha by Design folks on this one- but it was also very rewarding to hold the physical, printed copy of the booklet in my hand. This project really helped to solidify my growing love for printed design work.

2. AIA Omaha Booklet

Designer: Ben Lueders

We worked on this 28 page brochure for the annual AIA Omaha Home Tour simultaneously with the Omaha by Design booklet- they were printed only days apart. The best part of working on AIA projects is that you always get to work with amazing architectural photographs! Having great photos to work with- can really help to make a design project have that much needed edge.

3. The Green Spot Identity and Collateral

Designers: Ben Lueders & Tony Montgomery
Art Director: Donovan Beery

Every once in awhile a client will approach a designer with a truly exciting full-scale project. The Green Spot was definitely that client for us. The Green Spot owners were planning to open up an all-new, organic pet food store right down the street from our Eleven19 office! After spending a good amount of time deciding on the right logo to portray the heart of the company- we preceded to create a host of print materials and signage for the new company.

4. Eleven19 10 Year Poster

Designer: Ben Lueders

Donovan really wanted to create something special for Eleven19's 10 year anniversary party invites- so we spent a lot of time in the brainstorming/planning phase. In the end we decided on creating a simple, two color poster featuring a large "10" made up of little items from around the office and symbols representing key people in Eleven19's history.
